About Garbage

The photo has nothing to do with garbage, so don’t waste your time trying to make a connection.

If you spend a month going through people’s recycling you will see some trends. For example, just about everybody in Portland is drinking Kombucha. I don’t think people realize it is made from a big chunk of gross stuff that looks like feta cheese floating in dirty water. Another alarming trend is the amount of maple syrup consumed by this city. I see empty syrup bottles in most people’s recycling, while some households put out five a week.

One dream I have is to make a place for houseless people to come and make things. I’m sickened by the waste I see in the garbage in this city. You could run a business with just a fraction of the wood I see thrown out every day. the amount of brand new cardboard boxes is staggering. There are tarps, gazebos, gas cans, antique furniture, 3 ring binders, clip boards, baby strollers – all in perfect condition.
